Dr. Nick Teich, PhD, LCSW, is the founder and principal of Fairwinds Camp Consulting. His experience in camp life runs deep.

As a camp founder and longtime director, a social worker by training, and with experience with both non-profit and private camps, Nick knows the myriad issues that different directors face and how the camp landscape has changed over the years. He coaches, trains, and consults with many camps.

​

In 2009 Nick started Harbor Camps for marginalized youth populations and grew it to where it is today: serving more than 800 campers each summer. During that time he oversaw the purchase of its own 116-acre property and initiated and built over 20 new buildings and program areas. He now coaches camp directors from all across North America. Nick began his overnight camping career in Maine at the age of 10, where he subsequently became a CIT, counselor, and a member of the camp leadership.

Nick is the recent recipient of the American Camp Association - New England Peter Kerns Award for the Advancement of Professional Development "for inspiring and challenging others to enhance the camp experience for all." He has presented at conferences such as: ACA National, Tri-State, ACA New England, Camp Owners & Directors Association (CODA), Maine Summer Camps, Maine Camp Experience, and more. Nick is on the Board of Directors of ACA-New England and is on the Education Committee of Maine Summer Camps. The camp he founded is a past recipient of the ACA's Eleanor Eells Award for Program Excellence. He recently ran three directors' groups for ACA-New England: "The Business of Camp," "Mental, Emotional, and Social Health (MESH) Systems," and a private camps directors' group. He is an A.M. Skier Camp Insurance partner and trainer.

 

Nick has a master's degree in social work from Boston College and a Ph.D. in social policy from Brandeis University. He lives in the Boston area with his wife and two daughters, both of whom love attending camp each summer.
